As Cambridge Science Park marks its 55th year, it remains one of the UK’s leading hubs for science and technology. Founded as the country’s first science park, it has grown steadily into a community of more than 170 companies and around 7,000 employees, with further expansion planned from 2026. Over five decades, the Park has developed in step with the wider Cambridge innovation ecosystem. Its progress reflects a model built on long-term investment, close links between research and industry, and a sustained focus on supporting companies over time.

As part of the 55th-anniversary coverage of Cambridge Science Park, a recent BBC report featured partners and tenants from the TusPark Bio-Innovation Centre. We were pleased to see our partner FlexEnable, which specialises in flexible displays and liquid crystal optics. Its work on smart-glasses technology points to new possibilities within the eyewear market. The report also highlighted the progress of our tenants at the Bio-Innovation Centre, including Xampla, a University of Cambridge spin-out developing plant-based alternatives to conventional plastics, and Owlstone Medical, which is advancing non-invasive diagnostic technologies focused on the early detection of disease and has received up to $49.1 million in funding from ARPA-H.

Together, these companies reflect how research developed in Cambridge can be translated into real-world impact when supported by a strong and connected community. Their progress emphasises the importance of long-term collaboration between science parks, innovation centres and research-led businesses, and the role that Cambridge Science Park continues to play as a focal point for this activity.

TusPark UK has been part of this community for many years. Working closely with Cambridge Science Park, it supports companies developing new technologies in life sciences, advanced materials and other research-intensive fields. The TusPark Bio-Innovation Centre, one of the first facilities of its kind to offer fully flexible laboratory and office space, enables start-ups to grow without the constraints of fixed infrastructure.

Through long-standing partnerships and global network, TusPark UK has become closely integrated into Cambridge’s innovation ecosystem. It brings together academic research and industry expertise and has been recognised by organisations across Cambridge and the wider UK. With around 350,000 sq ft of laboratory and workspace dedicated to research, innovation and incubation, TusPark UK provides practical support for early- and growth-stage companies.

As Cambridge Science Park looks ahead to its next phase of growth, TusPark UK remains committed to supporting science-led innovation and contributing to the development of the Cambridge ecosystem.
